Meet the team

Markus has over 25 years of experience in structured trading and structured finance markets, and has been successful in creating many groundbreaking trades within a wide range of corporate and financial establishments. Markus has established himself as one of the most innovative structured finance professionals in the Middle East. His experience in the structured finance markets has led to the creation of bespoke funding solutions that suit borrowers and lenders alike. Markus can see solutions where others can only see issues.

Markus founded Fius in the summer of 2008 and the company gained its DIFC trade license in November 2009.

Markus moved to the UAE in 2006 to be Co-Head of Trading for Emirates Bank (now Emirates NBD) Global Markets in charge of Structured Finance Business. Prior to moving to the Gulf, Markus was a partner at London Diversified Fund Management (“LDFM”), a top London Macro Fund. He was previously Head of Credit Trading at Enron Europe, based in London, and managed the structured trading business at Maple Securities (UK). He also held senior trading positions at CSFB, Credit Suisse Financial Products and before that, Society Generale and Royal Bank of Canada.

Markus holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Simon has over 25 years of experience in a vast array of control functions in the financial services sector including operational risk management, infrastructure, overhauling legacy fund structures, hedge fund management and managing day-to-day operations. Simon manages the business risks faced by Fius, whilst establishing and optimising the day-to-day operations of the company. Simon joined Fius in 2009.

Prior to joining Fius, Simon worked at London Diversified Fund Management ("LDFM"), where he was responsible for their Offshore Financial Operations. Simon helped build the infrastructure for structured credit products and the London Credit Fund at LDFM, prior to it being rolled into the London Diversified Fund.

In 2001, Simon helped establish Beaumont Capital, a London based Fund Manager which was subsequently purchased by Schroder’s PLC – there he went on to amalgamate the legacy Schroder processes with the infrastructure built by the Beaumont team to create the platform which eventually hosted all of the Schroder PLC Funds. Previously, Simon has held positions at Nomura PLC, Deutsche Bank and Svenska Handelsbanken; all within control functions.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Business with majors in Accounting and Finance from Edith Cowan University, Western Australia, Australia.

Marc has over 20 years experience in Financial Services having initially worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) for 11 years where he qualified as a CPA. He then worked for Credit Suisse (CS) for over 14 years as a Managing Director in a variety of Financial Control roles as well as COO for the EMEA Fixed Income business. In 2011, Marc joined as CFO for Moscow based Renaissance Capital (RC) before moving to ANZ’s EMIA business before ending up in the UAE. In Dubai he was CFO for Commercial Bank International (CBI) prior to joining Fius recently. For both PWC and CS, he was at various times based in New York, London and Zurich. At CS, RC, ANZ and CBI he was the regulatory approved functional key person.

Marc holds a BS in Business Administration-Accounting and Finance and a Masters of Professional Accountancy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a two time Big 8 Champion and represented Canada at the World Track and Field Championships. A keen competitive cyclist, since settling in Dubai Marc has established and developed one of the most recognised and successful amateur cycling teams in the UAE.
Paul has over 30 years of experience, during which time he has been involved in a wide range of major corporate, financial and real estate transactions across the Middle East region. Paul has extensive experience advising on a mixture of M&A, debt and equity capital markets transactions, private placements, joint venture arrangements, inward investment agreements, structured finance offerings, corporate restructurings and investment funds (in both the conventional and Islamic spheres). Paul has also advised financial institutions on a range of regulatory issues. Paul’s clients have included leading multi-national and major local corporations, global financial institutions, arrangers, underwriters and sponsors, governments and quasi-governmental institutions. Paul joined Fius in 2011.

Prior to joining Fius in 2011, Paul worked at SNR Denton where he was a partner in their Corporate and Finance Departments in the Middle East and at Clifford Chance, where he oversaw a practice across the firm's Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices.

Paul holds a Masters in Arts (MA) from Oxford University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from London University in the UK. Paul is a solicitor (non-practising) of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.
Anne-Sophie is a British and French national with over 25 years of experience in audit, risk management and regulatory-compliance.

Anne-Sophie has held senior roles in Tier 1 Banks (Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland, CSFB, GE Capital, Standard Chartered Bank to name a few) and Big 4 consultancies (Arthur Andersen) leading large transformation programmes to design and implement risk management frameworks. A specialist in financial crime compliance, Anne-Sophie has been appointed to investigate on suspicions of criminal activities such as fraud, embezzlement or corruption.

Resident in Dubai since 2013, Anne-Sophie has been providing consultancy services since 2017. She joined Shared C-Suite as growth partner, a consultancy network and is CEO and Founder of Circe Partners. She is a member of the Global Digital Finance AML (Anti-Money Laundering) working group to assist with the evolution of FATF40 (Financial Action Task Force) covering cryptocurrencies and virtual assets service providers. She is passionate about combatting financial crime, contributing to the protection of the environment and exploring how to leverage new technologies to achieve noble causes and is a regular speaker at conferences.

Anne-Sophie has an MBA from Neoma Business School in France, is a DECFF Certified Accountant and holds a number of certifications in risk and compliance, and most recently on Blockchain Strategy from the Said University, Oxford, UK.
Lee has worked as a compliance professional for over 15 years based in both the UK and Dubai. In the UK, Lee worked for Brewin Dolphin – one of the UK’s leading providers of personalised, discretionary wealth management services as a Compliance Manager, providing the business with advice and guidance on a variety of regulatory matters. During his time at Brewin Dolphin he contributed to the implementation of the MiFID regulations and the UK Retail Distribution Review.

Prior to joining ETIVE Consulting, he worked in Dubai for Emirates NBD as a Compliance Manager in Private Banking, giving him exposure to the onshore regulatory requirements of the Securities and Commodities Authority and the UAE Central Bank.

Lee has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Studies from Northumbria University, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). He has obtained the CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance; the CISI DIFC Rules and Regulation Certificate; the CISI Investment, Risk and Taxation Certificate and the CISI Certificate in Investment Administration.
Based in Asia, Marvin is responsible for Fius' quantitative system development. Marvin has over 30 years experience in the finance industry and has worked at Salomon, Lehman, ABN Amro and LDFM. His roles have included interest rate derivatives and macro trading, and the development of interest rate and credit derivatives risk management systems and decision support tools.

Marvin holds a Masters degree in Mathematics from the University of London.
Adele has over 15 years experience spanning New Zealand and the UK in marketing and business management ranging from airlines to dotcoms including Air New Zealand, Travelfusion, Salomon Brothers and Xerox. She helped set up Fius at its inception alongside its founder, Markus. Adele manages client relationships for Fius and is also Company Secretary to the Board of Directors.

In 2018, alongside Theresa Tsui and Carla Bygrave, she helped found Skills3, a women-led social impact enterprise that teaches sewing to women in marginalised communities including refugee camps in Iraq. Adele continues to volunteer in this field.

Adele has a Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons) from University of Waikato, New Zealand and is an Affiliate of ICSA, the Governance Institute in the UK.
K is a key member of our team and brings plenty of enthusiasm to his job. Responsible for Fius' entire security detail as Head of Security, K safeguards Fius' premises, assets and systems, as well as the safety and wellbeing of employees and visitors.

K hails from Pontrhydyfen, Wales (interesting fact is it was also the place of birth of the actor, Richard Burton). K was top of the Terrier Class at the 2013 Pedigree Dubai Dog Show. K has settled well into his expat life in Dubai and enjoys chasing the local cats.
